About Us | Chofi Taco

Built on Passion

Built on Passion

Chofi was born from a dream, a passion for hospitality, and a deep love connection to home. Founder and Chef Kim Martin grew up between New York City and Mexico, where food was always at the center of family, culture, and community. After years of working alongside some of New York City's most talented chefs and hospitality teams, she set out to create something of her own: a place where authentic Mexican food, handmade with care, could be shared with everyone.
Rooted in Tradition

Rooted in Tradition

What began as a small taco stand at food festivals quickly grew into something much bigger. Chofi became known for its handmade tortillas crafted from traditional nixtamal masa, its celebrated birria, and its commitment to serving food that feels honest, comforting, and true to its roots. Long before birria tacos became common, Chofi was among the first to introduce them to the East Coast, helping showcase what Mexican food and tradition is all about.
The Heart of Chofi

The Heart of Chofi

The restaurant is named after Kim's first daughter, Sofia, whose nickname is Chofi. More than a restaurant, Chofi has always been an extension of home—a place where guests are welcomed like family and where every dish tells a story. Today, Chofi continues to evolve. Kim remains the heart and creative force behind the restaurant, while her business partner Felix brings vision, business expertise, and a passion for growth. Together, they are committed to building a business that values quality, hospitality, family, and community above all else. Whether you're joining us for the first time or have been with us since the beginning, we're grateful to have you at our table.
